About Harrington College of Design Located in the Chicago Loop, Harrington offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in interior design, communication design, and photography. Harrington is a private, for-profit, regionally accredited college with a current enrollment of approximately 1,000 students. Harrington offers year-round educational opportunities including a complete summer semester. About The Library at Harrington Harrington’s print collection contains roughly 23,000 volumes and 100 current periodical subscriptions. The Library is a governing member of the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI) and is a participant in the 76-library I-Share resource sharing program. The Library is staffed by the Director, a talented digital resources librarian, and a number of student workers. Digital collections include about 35 database subscriptions and an MDID digital image collection. - Develop and implement a vision for the Library in support of Harrington’s
mission, vision, values, goals, and strategic plan. - Plan and implement strategies to enhance library services and instructional
use of the library - Manage daily operations, staff and budgets
- Hire, supervise, review, and address performance problems with staff.
- Selection and acquisition of library materials
- Oversee and perform original and copy cataloging
- Oversee and provide reference, instruction and other public services,
possibly including evening and/or weekend hours as required - Ensure that the library continues to meet all requirements of Harrington’s
accrediting agencies and library consortium agreements, and license agreements. - Serve on administrative committees such as Academic Council and Faculty
Council - Stay informed of Harrington’s curriculum, the design profession,
and academic librarianship. - Oversee collection development and encourage faculty recommendations for
library resources - Administer aspects of the college intranet and Internet-based resources.
- Facilitate communication and technology use across the campus and engage
the campus to incorporate emerging technologies. - Represent the college at professional and consortium meetings
- Maintain an open and nurturing atmosphere for learning, research and study
- Other duties as assigned
Required Skills - Knowledge of all aspects of academic libraries
- Knowledge of emerging information resources and current issues in scholarly
communication - Excellent analytical skills, demonstrated initiative and project management
skills - Excellent organizational and time management skills and the ability to
work independently - Ability to work creatively in a team environment
- Superior verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and standard productivity applications
such as Microsoft Office
Required Experience - Graduate degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association
or equivalent combination of education and professional library experience - Supervisory and/or administrative experience in an academic library or
comparable environment - Preferred, not required: Academic degree and/or professional experience
in design, architecture or art - Preferred, not required: Facility with social networking and related technologies
- Preferred, not required: Familiarity with web development technologies
such as HTML and CSS - Preferred, not required: Familiarity with industry standard design technologies
such as Adobe or Autodesk products - Preferred, not required: Experience using ExLibris Voyager

Energy, enthusiasm and a willingness to work collaboratively with staff, public and board are key qualities for the position of Library Director of the Fossil Ridge Public Library District.
The library, located in Braidwood, IL, serves several residential and farming communities with a total population of 13,478, circulation 120,000. The 13,142 sq. ft. building offers up to date computer technology including WIFI, and an online catalog and databases, accessible from home and the library. Monday through Friday Bookmobile Service brings the library to area schools and communities in the 160.3 sq. mile service area. The budget is $700,000, staff is 12 FTE. To qualify for this position you must have an MLS from an ALA accredited program and five years of public library experience; three years of supervisory experience is desirable. Communication skills, leadership and problem solving skills are essential to success in this position.
Position available: July 1, 2010
Minimum starting salary is $44,000 with fully paid medical benefits, ALA and ILA membership and competitive sick and vacation time policies.
